Rooks County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Stockton .

The county is located in central northwest Kansas, about 45 km north of Nebraska , and has an area of ​​2319 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Phillips County , Smith County , Osborne County , Ellis County , Trego County, and Graham County .

history

Rooks County was formed on February 26, 1867. It was named after John C. Rooks , an officer in the American Civil War .

Three of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 30, 2017).
