Logan County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Oakley . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northwest Kansas, about 50 km to the west from Colorado , and covers an area of ​​2,779 square kilometers with no significant body of water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Thomas County , Gove County , Scott County , Wichita County , Wallace County, and Sherman Counties .

history

Logan County was formed on February 24, 1887. It was named after John Alexander Logan , a US general in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War , and later US Senator from Illinois and candidate for the office of Vice President of the United States .

Three buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 30, 2017).

Logan County had a population of 3,046 people as of the 2000 census . 57 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 1243 households and 856 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer.
