Wallace County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Sharon Springs . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in western Kansas, bordering Colorado, and covers an area of ​​2,367 square kilometers with no significant body of water. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Sherman County , Logan County , Wichita County, and Greeley County .

history

Wallace County was formed in 1888. It was named after William Harvey Lamb Wallace , a general of the Northern States in the American Civil War , who died on April 10, 1862 after a fatal wound in the Battle of Shiloh , which lasted from April 6 to 7, 1862 .

Three buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 30, 2017).

Wallace County's population was 1,749 people as of the 2000 census . Of these, 25 lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 674 households and 477 families in Wallace County. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer.
