Sherman County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Goodland .

The county is located almost in the extreme northwest of Kansas, borders Colorado to the west , is about 45 km from Nebraska to the north , and covers an area of ​​2,735 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cheyenne County , Rawlins County , Thomas County , Logan County, and Wallace Counties .

history

Sherman County was formed on September 20, 1886. It was named after William T. Sherman , one of the most famous generals of the Northern States in the American Civil War and secretary of war in the post-war period .

According to the 2000 census , Sherman County had 6,760 people in 2,758 households and 1,781 families in Sherman County. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.83 percent white, 0.36 percent African American, 0.33 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.16 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 4.14 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.99 percent were descended from two or more races.
