Sherman County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Goodland .

The county is located almost in the extreme northwest of Kansas, borders Colorado to the west , is about 45 km from Nebraska to the north , and covers an area of ​​2,735 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cheyenne County , Rawlins County , Thomas County , Logan County, and Wallace Counties .

history

Sherman County was formed on September 20, 1886. It was named after William T. Sherman , one of the most famous generals of the Northern States in the American Civil War and secretary of war in the post-war period .

According to the 2000 census , Sherman County had 6,760 people in 2,758 households and 1,781 families in Sherman County. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer.
