Cheyenne County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is St. Francis .

geography

The county is located in the extreme northwest of Kansas, borders Nebraska to the north and Colorado to the west and has an area of ​​2,644 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Rawlins County and Sherman Counties .

history

Cheyenne County was formed as the original Free Territory county on March 6, 1873. It was named after the Cheyenne Indian people .

According to the 2000 census , Cheyenne County had 3,165 people in 1,360 households and 919 families in Cheyenne County. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer.
