Republic County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Belleville .

The county is located in northern Kansas, bordering Nebraska and has an area of ​​1,866 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers are water. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Washington County , Cloud County, and Jewell County .

history

Republic County was formed on February 27, 1860 from parts of Washington County. It was named after the Republican River .

As of the 2000 census , Republic County had 5,835 people in 2,557 households and 1,685 families in Republic County. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.56 percent white, 0.26 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.33 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.00 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.46 percent were descended from two or more races.
