Graham County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Hill City .

The county is located in northwest Kansas, about 45 km north of Nebraska , and covers an area of ​​2,328 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Norton County , Phillips County , Rooks County , Trego County , Gove County, and Sheridan Counties .

history

Graham County was formed as the original Free Territory County on February 26, 1867. It was named after John L. Graham , an officer in the American Civil War who was killed in the Battle of Chickamauga , which lasted from September 19-20, 1963 .

Graham County has a National Historic Landmark , the Nicodemus National Historic Site . A total of 4 buildings and sites in the county are registered on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 29, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , Graham County had 2,946 people in 1,263 households and 847 families in Graham County. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.91 percent white, 3.22 percent African American, 0.34 percent Native American, 0.27 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.41 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.81 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.78 percent of the population.
