Grant County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat and only city is Ulysses . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located almost in the extreme southwest of Kansas, about 45 km to the west of Colorado and south of Oklahoma , and covers an area of 1,489 square kilometers with no significant body of water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Kearny County , Finney County , Haskell County , Stevens County , Stanton County, and Hamilton County .
history
Grant County was formed as the original Free Territory county on March 6, 1873. It was named after Ulysses S. Grant , a general of the Northern States in the American Civil War and 18th US President .
Graham County has a National Historic Landmark , Lower Cimarron Spring . A total of 4 buildings and sites in the county are registered on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 29, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , there were 7,909 people in Grant County. 71 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 2742 households and 2097 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.00 percent white, 0.21 percent African American, 0.86 percent Native American, 0.37 percent Asian and 19.46 percent from other ethnic groups; 2.10 percent were descended from 2 or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 34.67 percent of the population.
Of the 2,742 households, 43.6 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 66.4 percent were married couples living together, 7.1 percent were single mothers, and 23.5 percent were non-families. 21.0 percent of all households were single households and 8.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.34 people.
32.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.2 percent between 45 and 64 years of age, and 9.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 100.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 97.5 men.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 39,854 , and the median income for a family was $ 44,914. Males had a median income of $ 34,464 versus $ 22,000 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,072. 6.5 percent of families and 10.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
