Jackson County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Holton .

The county is located in northeast Kansas, about 25 miles north of Nebraska , about 50 km to the east from Missouri , and has an area of ​​1,704 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Brown County , Atchison County , Jefferson County , Shawnee County , Pottawatomie County, and Nemaha County .

Jackson County was formed on February 11, 1859. It was named after Andrew Jackson , the seventh US president .

As of the 2000 census , Jackson County had 12,657 people in 4,727 households and 3,507 families in Jackson County. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer.
