etymology
Phillipsburg was founded in 1872 and named after William A. Phillips , as opposed to Phillips County, which was named after William Phillips.

Phillipsburg is located on the western foothills of the Smoky Hills , 20 miles south of the Nebraska border in the Great Plains .
