He became a chamber councilor in 1946 and a councilor for commerce in 1957 . The Kapsreiter Group , headed by Gustav Kapsreiter for many years, finally comprised the three branches of Kapsreiter Construction , Kapsreiter Beer and Kapsreiter Granite . The company was one of the most important employers in the region , particularly after the Second World War . Gustav Kapsreiter was one of the founders of the Association of Austrian Industrialists and headed the Association of the Stone and Ceramic Industry in Austria. From December 19, 1945 to March 18, 1953 he was a member of the National Council for the ÖVP .

Gustav Kapsreiter was married to Maria Mayr (1896–1959) from Salzburg, a niece of Richard and Carl Mayr . Through this marriage, the Kapsreiter family also came into possession of the Rauchbichlerhof in Salzburg. Gustav Kapsreiter, his wife and his brother Peter, who died prematurely, are buried in the Mayr family crypt at the Petersfriedhof Salzburg .

In Henndorf am Wallersee the Gustav-Kapsreiter-Weg is named after Gustav Kapsreiter.

Kapsreiter as a patron

Gustav Kapsreiter's wife made a name for herself as a patron of the arts and campaigned for the preservation of the Schärdinger Castle Park, where a plaque commemorates her. Both were also active in the area of the Innviertel artists' guild. Gustav Kapsreiter himself was a member of Carl Zuckmayer's circle of friends and supported artists and writers such as Alfred Kubin , Johanna Dorn-Fladerer and Richard Billinger .

Carl Zuckmayer wrote about Kapsreiter: "Gustav Kapsreiter knew all his life how to combine business management, politics and wealth with an enthusiastic understanding of art, he was a life artist in every respect ..."

Kapsreiter was also friends with Christiane Zimmer, Hugo von Hofmannsthal's daughter , and her husband. He tried to buy the family's property, Schloss Prielau , after Gerty von Hofmannsthal, the poet's Jewish widow, had given the property to her daughter and her daughter had been ordered to sell the property immediately. Kapsreiter's attempts to save the property in this way were prevented by the Nazi authorities, so that finally the sculptor Josef Thorak , who was valued by the National Socialists , was able to take possession of the property.
