Innviertel artists' guild
The Innviertler Künstlergilde (IKG) is a regionally limited artist community with a supraregional appeal, which was first founded on November 11, 1923 in Braunau and re-launched on July 26, 1947 in Ried im Innkreis after the Second World War .
history
founding
The IKG was and is an artist community based on the Innviertel. The initiators were the painters Aloys Wach and Louis Hofbauer as well as the later secretary Karl Hosaeus . Academic and artistic training should be required of every member even more than residence or birth, and women were excluded (both could not be maintained, since no professional evidence is possible for writers and poets and women soon demolished this male bastion after the war). The first chairman of the IKG was Hugo von Preen and the Braunau district captain Hans von Hammerstein-Equord was appointed president, while the secretary was Karl Hosaeus and the paymaster Edmund Bayer . The founding meeting took place on November 11, 1923 at the Fink inn in Braunau. The founding members included a. Richard Billinger , Wilhelm Dachauer , Engelbert Daringer , Josef Furthner , Louis Hofbauer, Alfred Kubin , Maximilian Liebenwein , Richard Puchner , Josef Reiter, Hans Schihan , Paul Thun-Hohenstein , Franz Xaver Weidinger and Walter Ziegler .
Development until 1938
Despite economic hardship, the 30s marked a wedding for this group of artists; the exhibitions gave artists a chance to get their names out there and sell their works. The year 1938 brought a temporary end with the Anschluss , as all Austrian art associations were frozen and placed under the Reich Chamber of Culture . Formally, the President of the Vienna Künstlerhaus , the academic painter Leopold Blauensteiner , was responsible for the IKG ; own activities were no longer permitted.
The “Innviertler Galerie” offered a way out at this time; this had already been opened on November 25, 1934 with the participation of the IKG. As a municipal institution, it remained unaffected by the synchronization and its custodian Max Bauböck offered the guild masters of the IKG opportunities to exhibit their works. When the last chairman of the IKG, Ernst August von Mandelsloh , was appointed "State Director for Fine Arts in the Upper Danube Gau", the hope of a revitalization of the IKG arose, but this was dashed by the beginning of the war. Despite the war, the Innviertler Galerie organized nationally important exhibitions that were taken over by other cities (e.g. the exhibition “German Engravers of the Present” was taken over by the Grenzlandmuseum Flensburg ).
Re-establishment
After the war, Max Bauböck , Walther Gabler , Wilhelm Traeger and Engelbert Daringer sought to reorganize the IKG. After massive internal disputes, the first ordinary general meeting of the IKG was held in Ried on July 26, 1947 and it was decided to re-establish it. Engelbert Daringer, who was politically beyond doubt due to his resistance to the Nazi regime, was planned as president. Alfred Kubin was appointed honorary chairman, Hans von Hammerstein-Equord was confirmed as honorary president. Walther Gabler was elected as chairman and Wolfgang Jungwirth as his deputy , secretary was Max Bauböck and paymaster Alois Haginger (Sparkasse director von Ried).
Development since 1947
The first post-war exhibition took place on the occasion of the Ried Volksfest on August 30, 1947 in the Ried City Library, where works by old guild masters (Alfred Kubin's edition “A New Dance of Death”) and new members ( Alois Dorn , Herbert Fladerer , Walther Gabler , Hans Schachinger , Wilhelm Schnabl , Karl Burian ). A separate memory room was provided for the literary work of the recently deceased Hammerstein Equord. Special attention was paid to the anniversary event on October 17, 1948, at which the works of all guild masters as well as other artists were shown (including Fritz Fröhlich , Margret Bilger , Herbert Dimmel , Johanna Dorn , Ernst Degn , Max Schlager , Emmy Woitsch , the elder ( 1894 to 1981), Anton Lutz ).
As the development of the following years shows, the IKG has consolidated as a comprehensive regional art association to this day. On April 9, 2010, IKG chairman Meinrad Mayrhofer presented three new guild masters to the public: the photo artist Franz Trost from Lohnsburg am Kobernaußerwald , the painter Rudolf Beer from Simbach am Inn and the sculptor Peter Nöbauer from Weyregg am Attersee .
