history

The first written mention of Schloss Prielau comes from the year 1425, when a Christian Glaser zu Prielau was named. In 1466 Polycarp von Hunt owned the farm. From 1560–1565 it was rebuilt by Hans Christoph Perner von Rettenwörth and received its shape that is still preserved today. In 1577 Caspar Panicher zu Wolckersdorff is owned and takes this praise into his name. Panicher was then land provost in the Fusch and land judge in Zell am See. He is followed by his daughter Anna, married to Christoph von Hirschau. The property passed into the possession of Baron Dietrich Kuen-Belasy von Chiemsee in 1590 and remained in the possession of Kuen-Belasy until 1722. Then the diocese Chiemsee acquires this rule. In 1803 the diocese was secularized . The last prince-bishop to use the castle was Sigmund Christoph von Zeil und Trauchburg . His coat of arms can still be seen on the castle portal. In 1811 the castle was auctioned to the sacristan Anton Neumayer.

In 1932 Gerty von Hofmannsthal, the widow of Hugo von Hofmannsthal , bought the property and began to restore the castle. She lived there with her son Raimund and his wife Elisabeth. To avoid expropriation by the National Socialists, she wanted to give the palace to her daughter Christiane and her husband, who were not considered full Jews, soon after the purchase. Christiane could then have sold the property to Gustav Kapsreiter , who was friends with the family, but the donation, which had initially been approved, was ultimately not approved and the family was expropriated. Kapsreiter's attempts to acquire the property were unsuccessful, instead the sculptor Josef Thorak was able to take possession of the property. In 1947 Schloss Prielau was restituted to the von Hofmannsthal family.

In 1987 the Porsche family bought the property and transformed the castle into a hotel with only a few guest rooms and suites. Among other things, it has a park, a deer herd, a private beach on the north shore of the lake, a golf course, a helicopter landing facility and a wellness department with a sauna, steam bath and massage services. There is a baroque chapel on the site, in which 30 to 40 marriages are concluded each year. The hotel has been run by Witzigmann student Andreas Mayer and his wife Anette Mayer since 2004 .
