PMG press monitor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PMG Presse-Monitor GmbH was founded in 2000 by leading German newspaper publishers in order to display digital press reviews that are produced for business reasons and are usually distributed in their own company, their own authorities, etc. (including by press offices, agencies and media observers), to license for a fee .

PMG provides the most extensive German-language, daily updated press database . Before it was founded, the remuneration could not or only with difficulty be enforced because the use of media contributions for press reviews could not be well controlled at the time. In the course of the increased importance of press reviews in PDF format , the publishers have closed this gap in copyright law.

Act as shareholders:

In total, over 800 publishers offer rights and content for around 4,000 titles. The contents of the PMG press database can be searched online for keywords, which is of particular interest to press offices and communication departments. In 2016, PMG introduced PMG MediaMeter, a platform for comprehensive digital media analysis of print publications.

Immediately after the founding of the PMG, the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) , which is responsible for legal supervision of the collecting societies , initially prohibited PMG from operating. PMG took legal action against this prohibition order because it is of the opinion that it is not a collecting society. The Bavarian Administrative Court (BayVerwGH) overturned the DPMA's prohibition order on August 13, 2002.

PMG cooperates with VG Wort in the area of remuneration claims for electronic press reviews that are subject to collecting society.

executive Director

In March 2019, Ingo Kästner was appointed as the new managing director, succeeding Oliver Graßy, who had been managing director of the GmbH since 2011.
