Stafford County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is St. John . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located just south of the geographic center of Kansas and has an area of ​​2058 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Barton County , Rice County , Reno County , Pratt County , Edwards County, and Pawnee Counties .

history

Stafford County was formed in 1873. It was named after Lewis Stafford , captain of the e-company of the 1st Kansas Infantry in the American Civil War .

According to the 2000 census , Stafford County had 4,789 people in 2010 households and 1,294 families in Stafford County. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.97 percent white, 0.15 percent African American, 0.38 percent Native American, 0.13 percent Asian and 2.97 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.42 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.41 percent of the population.
