The county seat is Stratford . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in the far north of Texas, in the Texas Panhandle , borders Oklahoma in the north and is about 50 km from New Mexico in the west . It has an area of ​​2391 square kilometers without any significant water surface. The county is bordered in a clockwise direction by Texas County , Hansford County , Moore County , and Dallam County .

history

Sherman County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County . It was named after Sidney Sherman , a soldier of the Texas Revolution .
