The Hamilton County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Hamilton .
geography
The county is located approximately 60 km east of the geographic center of Texas and covers an area of 2,166 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Erath County , Bosque County , Coryell County , Lampasas County , Mills County, and Comanche Counties .
history
Hamilton County was formed on January 22, 1858 from parts of Bosque County, Comanche County and Lampasas County. It was named after James Hamilton Jr. , the 28th Governor of South Carolina , Mayor of Charleston and a member of the United States House of Representatives .
The Hamilton County Courthouse is one of the county's buildings on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 5, 2019).

According to the 2000 census , Hamilton County had 8,229 people in 3,374 households and 2,324 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.81 percent white, 0.15 percent African American, 0.44 percent Native American, 0.15 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 4.36 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.05 percent were descended from two or more races. 7.41 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,374 households, 27.4 percent had children or adolescents living with them. 58.2 percent were married couples living together, 7.7 percent were single mothers, and 31.1 percent were non-families. 28.4 percent were single households and 17.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.89 people.
23.8 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.0 percent between 18 and 24, 22.9 percent between 25 and 44, 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 23.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 87.1 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 31,150 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,494. Males had a median income of $ 26,703 versus $ 20,192 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,800. 10.6 percent of families and 14.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
