The Fannin County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Bonham .

The county is located northeast of the geographic center of Texas, on the border with the state of Oklahoma and has an area of ​​2329 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Lamar County , Delta County , Hunt County , Collin County , Grayson County, and in Oklahoma, Bryan County .

history

Fannin County was formed on December 14, 1837 from parts of Red River County. It was named after James Fannin (1805-1836) from Georgia, who served in the Texan War of Independence and gained fame through his use in the battle at Concepción in 1835. He was captured in the Goliad massacre the following year and then executed.

Eight buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of May 19, 2019).

As of the 2000 census , Fannin County had 31,242 people in 11,105 households and 7,984 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 86.56 percent white, 7.96 percent African American, 0.92 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.78 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.49 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.61 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 11,105 households, 31.1 percent had children or young people living with them. 57.9 percent were married couples living together, 10.3 percent were single mothers, and 28.1 percent were non-families. 25.2 percent were single households and 12.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.99 people.

23.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.9 percent between 18 and 24, 28.6 percent between 25 and 44, 23.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.1 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 113.8 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 116.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $ 34,501 , and the median income for a family is $ 42,193. Males had a median income of $ 31,140 versus $ 23,101 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,066. 9.9 percent of families and 13.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
