The county is located in southern Texas, about 25 miles south and west of Mexico and about 50 miles east of the Gulf of Mexico . It has an area of ​​2943 square kilometers, without any significant water surface. The county is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Duval County , Brooks County , Starr County , Zapata County, and Webb Counties .

history

Jim Hogg County was formed in 1913 from parts of Brooks County and Duval Counties. It was named after Jim Hogg , the 21st governor of Texas .
