The Hopkins County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Sulfur Springs .
geography
The county is located in northeast Texas, about 50 km to the north from Oklahoma and about 80 km to the east from Arkansas and Louisiana . It has an area of 2053 square kilometers, of which 27 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Delta County , Franklin County , Wood County , Rains County, and Hunt County .
history
Hopkins County was formed on March 25, 1846 from parts of Lamar County and Nacogdoches County . The administrative organization was completed on July 13 of the same year. It was named after the family of David Hopkins (1825–1906), an early settler in the area.
One structure in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of November 2, 2019, the Hopkins County Courthouse .

Hopkins County had a population of 31,960 as of the 2000 census . Of these, 472 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 12,286 households and 8,882 families. The population density was 16 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 85.11 percent white, 7.99 percent African American, 0.68 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 4.55 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.36 percent were from two or more races. 9.28 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,286 households, 32.5 percent had children or young people living with them. 58.5 percent were married couples living together, 10.0 percent were single mothers, and 27.7 percent were non-families. 24.1 percent were single households and 11.8 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.04 people.
26.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.4 percent between 18 and 24, 27.3 percent between 25 and 44, 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.2 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 93.3 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,136 , and the median income for a family is $ 38,580. Males had a median income of $ 30,377 versus $ 20,751 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,182. 11.3 percent of families and 14.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
