The Denton County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Denton .
geography
The county is northeast of the geographic center of Texas and about 45 km to the north from the state of Oklahoma . It has an area of 2481 square kilometers, of which 180 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Cooke County , Grayson County , Collin County , Dallas County , Tarrant County, and Wise County .
history
Denton County was formed in 1846 from parts of Fannin County . It was named after John Bunyan Denton , a lawyer and preacher.

As of the 2000 census , Denton County had 432,976 people in 158,903 households and 111,391 families. The population density was 188 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.73 percent white, 5.86 percent African American, 0.59 percent Native American, 4.03 percent Asian, 0.05 percent from the Pacific island area and 5.56 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.19 percent were descended from two or more races. 12.15 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 158,903 households, 39.1 percent had children or young people living with them. 57.9 percent were married couples living together, 8.6 percent were single mothers, and 29.9 percent were non-families. 22.2 percent were single households and 3.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.18 people.
27.7 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 11.3 percent between 18 and 24, 37.0 percent between 25 and 44, 19.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 5.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 99 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 96.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 58,216 , and the median income for a family was $ 69,292. Males had a median income of $ 45,835 versus $ 31,639 for females. The per capita income was $ 26,895. 4.1 percent of families and 6.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
