Coppell is a city in Dallas and Denton Counties in the US state of Texas in the United States .

geography

The city is located on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in northeast Texas, in the northeast corner of Dallas County and extends into Denton County. It is located in the north about 70 km from Oklahoma and has a total area of ​​38.6 km², of which 0.1 km² is water surface. The Grapevine Creek , Denton Creek, and Cottonwood Branch flow through the city.

history

Settlement of the area began in the mid-19th century. The first name of the settlement was Gibbs Station , named after Barnett Gibbs , an assistant governor of Texas and landowner in the area. In 1892 the place was renamed Coppell in honor of George A. Coppell , a member of the railway company and early settler of the area.
