Coppell is a city in Dallas and Denton Counties in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in northeast Texas, in the northeast corner of Dallas County and extends into Denton County. It is located in the north about 70 km from Oklahoma and has a total area of 38.6 km², of which 0.1 km² is water surface. The Grapevine Creek , Denton Creek, and Cottonwood Branch flow through the city.
history
Settlement of the area began in the mid-19th century. The first name of the settlement was Gibbs Station , named after Barnett Gibbs , an assistant governor of Texas and landowner in the area. In 1892 the place was renamed Coppell in honor of George A. Coppell , a member of the railway company and early settler of the area.

According to the census in 2000 , 35,958 people lived here in 12,211 households and 9,781 families. The population density was 933.7 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 83.23% White, 3.26% African American, 0.34% Native American, 9.30% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, and 1.88% other ethnic groups. About 1.97% were mixed race and 6.92% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,211 households, 54.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 69.7% of these were married couples living together. 8.1% were single mothers and 19.9% were non-families. 16.1% of all households were single households and there were people living in 1.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.94 and the average family size was 3.34 people.
34.7% of the population were under 18 years old, 4.5% 18 to 24, 39.0% 25 to 44, 19.3% 45 to 64, and 2.6% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 93.2 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 96,935 , and the median income for a family is $ 106,630. Males had a median income of $ 76,681 versus $ 43,750 for females. The per capita income was $ 40,219. 1.9% of the population and 1.4% of families are below the poverty line. 1.9% of these were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 5.7% were 65 or older.
