The Brazos County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Bryan .

The county is east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 1,529 square kilometers, of which 12 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Leon County , Madison County , Grimes County , Washington County , Burleson County, and Robertson County .
history
Brazos County was formed on January 30, 1841 from parts of Washington County and was named Navasota County until January 28, 1842 . After that it was named after the Brazos River .

According to the 2000 census , Brazos County had 152,415 people. Of these, 13,345 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 55,202 households and 30,416 families. The population density was 100 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 74.45 percent white, 10.72 percent African American, 0.36 percent Native American, 4.01 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 8.42 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.97 percent were from two or more races. 17.88 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 55,202 households, 27.9 percent had children or adolescents living with them. 41.3 percent were married couples living together, 10.0 percent were single mothers, and 44.9 percent were non-families. 25.5 percent were single households and 5.0 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.16 people.
21.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 32.0 percent between 18 and 24, 26.0 percent between 25 and 44, 13.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 6.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 24 years. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 100.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 29,104 , and the median income for a family is $ 46,530. Males had a median income of $ 32,864 versus $ 24,179 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,212. 14.0 percent of families and 26.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
