The Burnet County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Burnet .

The county is east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2,644 square kilometers, of which 65 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Lampasas County , Bell County , Williamson County , Travis County , Blanco County , Llano County, and San Saba Counties .

history

Burnet County was formed on February 5, 1852 from parts of Bell County, Travis County and Williamson County. It was named after David G. Burnet , a vice president of the Republic of Texas and an officer in the Revolutionary Army during the Revolutionary Wars in Venezuela .

Eight structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of October 15, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Burnet County had 34,147 people in 13,133 households and 9,665 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.64 percent white, 1.52 percent African American, 0.68 percent Native American, 0.28 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 6.24 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.58 percent were descended from two or more races. 14.77 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 13,133 households, 30.1 percent had children or young people living with them. 61.5 percent were married couples living together, 8.6 percent were single mothers and 26.4 percent were non-families. 22.5 percent were single households and 10.8 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 2.94 people.

24.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.0 percent between 18 and 24, 26.0 percent between 25 and 44, 24.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 17.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 91.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $ 37,921 , and the median income for a family is $ 43,871. Males had a median income of $ 30,255 versus $ 20,908 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,850. 7.9 percent of families and 10.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
