The Comal County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in New Braunfels .

The county is located about 100 km southeast of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​1,488 square kilometers, of which 34 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Blanco County , Hays County , Guadalupe County , Bexar County, and Kendall Counties .

history

Comal County was formed on March 24, 1846 from parts of Bexar County. It was named after the Comal River , whose name goes back to the Spanish term for pan and describes the flat landscape of the area.

As of the 2000 census , Comal County had 78,021 people in 29,066 households and 21,886 families. The population density was 54 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.08 percent white, 0.95 percent African American, 0.53 percent Native American, 0.46 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 6.98 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.96 percent were descended from two or more races. 22.57 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 29,066 households, 33.3 percent had children or young people living with them. 62.8 percent were married couples living together, 9.0 percent were single mothers and 24.7 percent were non-families. 20.6 percent were single households and 9.0 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.05 people.

25.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.0 percent between 18 and 24, 27.5 percent between 25 and 44, 25.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 96 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 93.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $ 46,147 , and the median income for a family is $ 52,455. Males had a median income of $ 36,048 versus $ 25,940 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,914. 6.4 percent of families and 8.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
