Garden Ridge is a city in Comal County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

geography

The city is located on Interstate 35 , about 20 km southwest of New Braunfels , in the south of the county in southeastern Texas, and has a total area of ​​20.8 km², of which 0.4 km² is water.

history

When Garden Ridge was granted town charter on April 4, 1972, with a population of 230, it was the first town charter in the county in 127 years. The population rose from 647 in 1980 to 1,450 in 1990 and 1,882 in 2000. The increase in population may be due to the city's central location between Austin and San Antonio .

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 , 1,882 people lived here in 704 households and 622 families. The population density was 92.2 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 93.84% White, 2.23% African American, 0.11% Native American, 1.12% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, and 1.43% other ethnic groups. About 1.17% were mixed race and 7.55% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 704 households, 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 83.7% of them were married couples living together. 3.8% were single mothers and 11.6% were non-families. 9.2% of all households were single households and 4.7% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 2.85.

22.5% of the population were under 18 years old, 4.1% 18 to 24, 18.3% 25 to 44, 40.1% 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 100.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 96.0 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 90,184 , and the median income for a family is $ 92,269. Males had a median income of $ 68,750 versus $ 37,708 for females.
