The San Patricio County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Sinton .
geography
The county is located in southeast Texas, borders the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 1831 square kilometers, of which 40 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Bee County , Refugio County , Aransas County , Nueces County , Jim Wells County, and Live Oak County .
history
San Patricio County was formed in 1846 from parts of Refugio County. It was named after the Mexican town of San Patricio .

According to the 2000 census , San Patricio County had 67,138 people in 22,093 households and 17,232 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 76.76 percent white, 2.81 percent African American, 0.70 percent Native American, 0.63 percent Asian, 0.11 percent from the Pacific island area and 15.94 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.05 percent were descended from two or more races. 49.42 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 22,093 households, 41.6 percent had children or young people living with them. 60.6 percent were married couples living together, 12.7 percent were single mothers, and 22.0 percent were non-families. 18.7 percent were single households and 8.0 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.97 and the average family size was 3.40 people.
31.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 10.0 percent between 18 and 24, 28.2 percent between 25 and 44, 20.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 100.5 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 98.3 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 34,836 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,002. Males had a median income of $ 31,132 versus $ 20,730 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,425. 14.6 percent of families and 18.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
