The Concho County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Paint Rock .

The county is located about 50 km west of the geographic center of Texas and covers an area of ​​2574 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Runnels County , Coleman County , McCulloch County , Menard County , Schleicher County, and Tom Green County .

history

Concho County was formed on February 1, 1858 from parts of Bexar County . It was named after the Concho River , the name of which goes back to the Spanish name for "mussel" and probably refers to the mussel shells in the area.

Four buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of October 22, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Concho County had 3,966 people in 1,058 households and 757 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.20 percent white, 0.98 percent African American, 0.48 percent Native American, 0.08 percent Asian, 0.10 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 8.93 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.24 percent were descended from two or more races. 41.33 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,058 households, 29.8 percent had children or young people living with them. 59.4 percent were married couples living together, 9.7 percent were single mothers, and 28.4 percent were non-families. 26.6 percent were single households and 14.2 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.97 people.

16.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 10.4 percent between 18 and 24, 38.2 percent between 25 and 44, 21.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 181.3 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 209.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $ 31,313 , and the median income for a family is $ 36,894. Males had a median income of $ 20,750 versus $ 21,458 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,727. 7.5 percent of families and 11.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
