The Comanche County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Comanche .
geography
The county is located about 50 km northeast of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 2,454 square kilometers, of which 26 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Erath County , Hamilton County , Mills County , Brown County, and Eastland County .
history
Comanche County was formed on January 25, 1856 from parts of Bosque County and Coryell County . It was named after the Comanches , an Indian people.
One building in the county is on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of October 22, 2018, the Captain James & Susannah Cunningham Homestead .

As of the 2000 census , Comanche County had 14,026 people; 5,522 households and 3,926 families were counted. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.30 percent white, 0.44 percent African American, 0.61 percent Native American, 0.13 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 9.70 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.82 percent were descended from two or more races. 20.88 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,522 households, 29.8 percent had children or young people living with them. 59.2 percent were married couples living together, 8.1 percent were single mothers, and 28.9 percent were non-families. 26.3 percent were single households and 15.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.98 people.
25.3 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.1 percent between 18 and 24, 23.3 percent between 25 and 44, 24.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 20.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 94.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 28,422 , and the median income for a family was $ 34,810. Males had a median income of $ 26,094 versus $ 18,912 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,677. 13.9 percent of families and 17.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
