The Roberts County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Miami . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

geography

The county is located in northern Texas, in the Texas Panhandle , about 40 km to the north and east of Oklahoma and about 130 km to the west of New Mexico . It has an area of ​​2394 square kilometers without any significant water surface. The county is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Ochiltree County , Hemphill County , Gray County, and Hutchinson County .

history

Roberts County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County . It was named after Oran M. Roberts , the 7th governor of Texas and a signatory of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

As of the 2000 census , Roberts County had 887 people in 362 households and 275 families. The population density was 0.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.5 percent white, 0.3 percent African American, 0.6 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 1.4 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.1 percent were from two or more races. 3.2 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 100.2 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 97.3 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 44,792 , and the median income for a family is $ 50,400. Males had a median income of $ 33,125 versus $ 23,611 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,923. 5.0 percent of families and 7.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
