The Titus County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Mount Pleasant .
geography
The county is located in northeast Texas, about 30 km to the north from Oklahoma and to the northeast about 15 km from Arkansas . It has an area of 1103 square kilometers, of which 39 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Red River County , Morris County , Camp County, and Franklin Counties .
history
Titus County was formed in 1846 from parts of Bowie County . It was named after Andrew Jackson Titus , a lawyer and farmer.

As of the 2000 census , there were 28,118 people in 9,552 households and 7,154 families in Titus County. The population density was 26 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 70.15 percent white, 10.70 percent African American, 0.58 percent Native American, 0.43 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 16.42 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 28.31 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 9,552 households, 39.1 percent had children or young people living with them. 59.0 percent were married couples living together, 11.4 percent were single mothers and 25.1 percent were non-families. 22.1 percent were single households and 11.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.88 and the average family size was 3.36 people.
30.3 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 9.8 percent between 18 and 24, 28.0 percent between 25 and 44, 19.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 97.8 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 94 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 32,452 , and the median income for a family is $ 37,390. Males had a median income of $ 26,466 versus $ 18,238 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,501. 14.9 percent of families and 18.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
