The Titus County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Mount Pleasant .

geography

The county is located in northeast Texas, about 30 km to the north from Oklahoma and to the northeast about 15 km from Arkansas . It has an area of ​​1103 square kilometers, of which 39 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Red River County , Morris County , Camp County, and Franklin Counties .

history

Titus County was formed in 1846 from parts of Bowie County . It was named after Andrew Jackson Titus , a lawyer and farmer.

As of the 2000 census , there were 28,118 people in 9,552 households and 7,154 families in Titus County. The population density was 26 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 70.15 percent white, 10.70 percent African American, 0.58 percent Native American, 0.43 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 16.42 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 28.31 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
