The Hardeman County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Quanah .

The county is located in north Texas, on the border with Oklahoma and has an area of ​​1805 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by Harmon Counties and Jackson Counties in Oklahoma, and by the following counties in Texas: Wilbarger County , Foard County , Cottle County, and Childress Counties .

history

Hardeman County was formed in 1858 from parts of Fannin County. It was named after Bailey Hardeman and Thomas Jones Hardeman , two early Texan politicians.

Two of the county's sites and structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of July 4, 2019, the Quanah Commercial Historic District and the Quanah, Acme and Pacific Depot .

According to the 2000 census , Hardeman County had 4,724 people. 67 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 1,943 households and 1,319 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 85.4 percent white, 4.8 percent African American, 0.8 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and 7.1 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.6 percent were from two or more races. 14.5 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino American descent.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 28,312 , and the median income for a family is $ 33,325. Males had a median income of $ 26,683 versus $ 18,566 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,824. 14.6 percent of families and 17.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
