The Hood County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Granbury .

geography

The county is located approximately 90 km northeast of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​1,131 square kilometers, of which 39 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Parker County , Johnson County , Somervell County , Erath County, and Palo Pinto Counties .

history

Hood County was formed on November 2, 1866 from parts of Johnson County. It was named after John Bell Hood , a Confederate Army general and commander of Hood's Texas Brigade during the American Civil War . He rose to lieutenant general and in 1864 received supreme command of the Army of Tennessee , with which he was defeated by the Union troops in December of the same year in the Battle of Nashville . In 1865 he was stripped of his command.

Three structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of October 28, 2019, including the Baker-Carmichael House .

According to the 2000 census , Hood County had 41,100 people. Of these, 601 lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 16,176 households and 12,099 families. The population density was 38 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.77 percent white, 0.33 percent African American, 0.82 percent Native American, 0.31 percent Asian, 0.04 percent from the Pacific island area and 2.40 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.32 percent were from two or more races. 7.24 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.88 people.

23.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.7 percent between 18 and 24, 25.2 percent between 25 and 44, 26.6 percent between 45 and 64 and 17.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 94.1 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 43,668 , and the median income for a family is $ 50,111. Males had a median income of $ 38,662 versus $ 23,723 for females. The per capita income was $ 22,261. 6.0 percent of families and 8.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
