Granbury is the district capital and seat of the county seat of Hood County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located about 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth on US Highway 377 on Lake Granbury in central county, in central northeast Texas. The distance to Oklahoma in the north is 155 km. Granbury has a total area of 15.9 km², of which 1.6 km² is water.
history
In 1854 Tom Lambert and Amon Bond led a group of emigrants, mostly from Tennessee , across the Brazos River to the area. The city was named after John Bell Hood , a general in the Confederate Army .

According to the 2000 census, 5,718 people in 2,391 households and 1,458 families lived here. The population density was 398.5 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 94.54% White, 0.38% African American, 0.70% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, and 2.62% other ethnic groups. About 1.19% were mixed race and 7.31% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,391 households, 27.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 48.4% of these were married couples living together. 9.5% were single mothers and 39.0% were non-families. 34.9% of all households were single households and there were people living in 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.83 people.
21.0% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.0% 18 to 24, 25.6% 25 to 44, 21.9% 45 to 64, and 23.4% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females of all age groups there were 83.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 77.1 men.
The median income for a household in the 35,952 USD , and the median income for a family 45,451 USD. Males had a median income of $ 34,625 versus $ 25,721 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,801. 9.6% of the population and 5.0% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 4.6% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 14.9% were 65 or older.
