The Loving County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Mentone . With 82 inhabitants (2010) it is the poorest population in the United States.

The county is located in western Texas and borders the southeastern part of New Mexico . It has an area of ​​1753 square kilometers, of which 10 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Winkler County , Ward Counties , Reeves Counties, and in New Mexico by the following counties: Eddy Counties and Lea Counties .

history

Loving County was formed on February 26, 1887 from parts of Tom Green County . The administrative organization was completed in 1931. It was named after Oliver Loving , an early pioneer and rancher who provided cattle and pigs for the Confederate government .

One structure in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 16, 2020, the Loving County Courthouse .

As of the 2000 census , Loving County had 67 people in 31 households and 19 families. The population density was 0.04 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed entirely of whites . Seven of the residents were Hispanics or Latinos .

Of the 31 households, five had children or young people living with them. 17 were married or living together, two were single mothers, and eleven were non-families. Ten were single households and two had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.65 people.

13 people were under 18 years old, one between 18 and 24, 18 between 25 and 44, 24 between 45 and 64 and 11 were 65 years old or older. The median age was 46 years. For every ten females there were 11.61 males and for every woman 18 years of age or over there were 1.25 males.

The median income for a household in the 40,000 USD , and the median income for a family was 53,750 USD. Males had a median income of $ 25,833; females had no income. The per capita income was $ 24,084. Nobody lived below the poverty line.
