The Kendall County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Boerne .

The county is located about 80 km southeast of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​1717 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Gillespie County , Blanco County , Comal County , Bexar County , Bandera County, and Kerr Counties .

history

8000 BC Indians such as Kiowa , Comanche and Lipan Apaches first appear in the area. Between 1519 and 1685, Hernando Cortez and Alonso Álvarez de Pineda of Spain claimed Texas.

Kendall County was formed on January 10, 1862 from parts of Blanco County and Kerr County. It was named after George Wilkins Kendall (1809-1867), a co-founder of the Picayune newspaper , from which The Times-Picayune later emerged. He served as a captain in the Texas Santa Fe expedition and was then imprisoned in Mexico for two years. In 1851 he published a book on the Mexican-American War .

Eleven structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of December 30, 2019.

Kendall County's population was 23,743 as of the 2000 census . Of these, 479 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 8,613 households and 6,692 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.86 percent white, 0.35 percent African American, 0.56 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 4.41 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.55 percent were from two or more races. 17.89 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 8,613 households, 36.3 percent had children or young people living with them. 67.2 percent were married couples living together, 7.9 percent were single mothers, and 22.3 percent were non-families. 19.2 percent were single households and 8.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.09 people.

27.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.1 percent between 18 and 24, 26.4 percent between 25 and 44, 26.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 91.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 49,521 , and the median income for a family was $ 58,081. Males had a median income of $ 39,697 versus $ 28,807 for females. The per capita income was $ 24,619. 7.9 percent of families and 10.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
