The Winkler County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Kermit .

geography

The county is located in west Texas, borders the southeastern tip of New Mexico and has an area of ​​2,179 square kilometers, with no significant water surface. The county is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Andrews County , Ector County , Ward County , Loving County, and Lea Counties in New Mexico.

history

Winkler County was formed in 1887 from parts of Tom Green County . It was named after Clinton McKamy Winkler , a judge and colonel of the Confederate States of America .

The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 96.4 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 93.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 30,591 , and the median income for a family was $ 34,021. Males had a median income of $ 31,140 versus $ 18,967 for females.
