The Collin County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in McKinney .

The county is located northeast of the geographic center of Texas, about 50 km from the federal border with Oklahoma and has an area of 2294 square kilometers, of which 99 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Grayson County , Fannin County , Hunt County , Rockwall County , Dallas County, and Denton County .
history
Collin County was formed on April 3, 1846 from parts of Fannin County. It was named after Collin McKinney (1766–1861), one of the first settlers in this county, one of five authors of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

According to the 2000 census , Collin County had 491,675 people in 181,970 households and 132,292 families. The population density was 224 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.39 percent white, 4.79 percent African American, 0.47 percent Native American, 6.92 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 4.26 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.11 percent were descended from two or more races. 10.27 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 181,970 households, 40.6 percent had children or young people living with them. 62.1 percent were married couples living together, 7.5 percent were single mothers, and 27.3 percent were non-families. 22.1 percent were single households and 3.1 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.18 people.
28.7 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.4 percent between 18 and 24, 37.9 percent between 25 and 44, 20.7 percent between 45 and 64 and 5.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 97.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 70,835 , and the median income for a family is $ 81,856. Males had a median income of $ 57,392 versus $ 36,604 for females. The per capita income was $ 33,345. 3.3 percent of families and 4.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
