Prosper is a city in Collin County and Denton County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in northeast Texas on Highway 289, is about 70 km to the north from Oklahoma and has a total area of 12.8 km² without any significant water surface.
history
The city was founded in 1902 as a railway station for the St. Louis, San Francisco and Texas Railway .

2010 Census
According to the 2010 census, 9,423 people in 2,990 households and 2,544 families lived here. The population density was 161.1 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 87.1% White, 5.3% African American, 1.9% Asian, 0.6% Native American, and 2.8% from other races. About 2.4% were of mixed race and 10.8% of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,990 households, 55.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 75.2% of them were married couples living together. 4.7% were single mothers and 14.9% were non-families. 9.9% of all households were single households and there were people living in 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.15 and the average family size was 3.44 people.
35.9% of the population were under 18 years old, 4.8% 18 to 24, 30.4% 25 to 44, 23.6% 45 to 64, and 5.3% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 34.5 years. 49.7% of the population were male and 50.3% female.
Prosper grew very rapidly in the late 2000s, with the city's population already estimated at 22,358 by 2018.

According to the 2000 census, 2,097 people lived here in 678 households and 589 families. The population density was 163.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 92.23% White, 0.29% African American, 0.62% Native American, 0.38% Asian, and 5.15% from other races. About 1.34% were mixed race and 19.17% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
