The Wilson County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Floresville .

The county is located in southeastern Texas, about 130 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of ​​2094 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Guadalupe County , Gonzales County , Karnes County , Atascosa County, and Bexar Counties .

history

Wilson County was formed in 1874 from parts of Bexar County and Karnes County. It was named after James Charles Wilson , a US Senator from Texas and one of the leaders of the United Methodist Church in Texas.

As of the 2000 census , Wilson County had 32,408 people in 11,038 households and 8,830 families. The population density was 16 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.19 percent white, 1.21 percent African American, 0.58 percent Native American, 0.30 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 14.25 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.43 percent were descended from two or more races. 36.52 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 11,038 households, 40.0 percent had children or young people living with them. 66.5 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers and 20.0 percent were non-families. 17.1 percent were single households and 7.8 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.89 and the average family size was 3.26 people.

29.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.6 percent between 18 and 24, 28.6 percent between 25 and 44, 23.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.7 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 97 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 40,006 , and the median income for a family was $ 45,681. Males had a median income of $ 31,716 versus $ 23,582 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,253. 9.2 percent of families and 11.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
