The county is located in northwest Texas, bordering New Mexico to the west and has an area of ​​2071 square kilometers, with no significant water surface. The county is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cochran Counties , Terry Counties , Gaines Counties , and Lea Counties in New Mexico.

history

Yoakum County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County . It was named after Henderson King Yoakum , a soldier, prosecutor, and important figure in Texan history.
