The county is located in southwest Texas, borders the Gulf of Mexico to the east and has an area of ​​2031 square kilometers, of which 486 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Kenedy County , Cameron County, and Hidalgo Counties .

history

Willacy County was formed in 1911 from parts of Cameron County and Hidalgo County. It was named after John G. Willacy , a farmer and senator from Texas who was instrumental in the formation of the county.
