The Young County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Graham .
geography
The county is located about 150 km north of the geographic center of Texas and about 70 km from Oklahoma . It has an area of 2411 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Archer County , Jack County , Palo Pinto County , Stephens County, and Throckmorton Counties .
history
Young County was formed in 1856 from parts of Bosque County and Fannin County . It was named after William Cocke Young , an early settler, prosecutor, sheriff, and Texas commander of two regiments in the American-Mexican War and the American Civil War.

As of the 2000 census , Young County had 17,943 people in 7,167 households and 5,081 families. The population density was 8 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.98 percent white, 1.21 percent African American, 0.64 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.28 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.58 percent were descended from two or more races. 10.62 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,167 households, 30.8 percent had children or young people living with them. 58.0 percent were married couples living together, 9.4 percent were single mothers and 29.1 percent were non-families. 26.3 percent were single households and 14.3 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.94 people.
25.0 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.0 percent between 18 and 24, 24.7 percent between 25 and 44, 23.6 percent between 45 and 64 and 19.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 91.6 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 86.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 30,499 , and the median income for a family was $ 36,698. Males had a median income of $ 30,257 versus $ 19,441 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,710. 12.0 percent of families and 15.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
