The county is located northwest of the geographic center of Texas, is about 25 miles to the east from the eastern border of New Mexico , and has an area of ​​2308 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Hockley County , Lynn County , Dawson County , Gaines County, and Yoakum County .

history

Terry County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County . It was named after Benjamin Franklin Terry , a Confederate Army colonel and commander of the 8th Texas Cavalry.
