The county is located approximately 90 km north of the geographic center of Texas and covers an area of ​​2,387 square kilometers, of which 70 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Young County , Palo Pinto County , Eastland County , Shackelford County, and Throckmorton County .

history

Stephens County was formed in 1858 from parts of Bosque County . It was named after Alexander Hamilton Stephens , the only Vice President of the Confederate States of America .
