The Nueces County is a county in the US state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Corpus Christi .
geography
The county is located in southeast Texas, on the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 3,021 square kilometers, of which 856 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: San Patricio County , Kleberg County, and Jim Wells Counties .
history
Nueces County was formed from parts of San Patricio County on April 18, 1846, and the administrative organization was completed on July 12. It was named after the Nueces River , whose name comes from Spanish and means "nut". This name was given in 1689 because of the pecan trees on the banks of the Nueces River.
17 structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of May 3, 2020), including the King Ranch and the aircraft carrier USS Lexington (CV-16) have the status of National Historic Landmarks .

According to the 2000 census , Nueces County had 313,645 people in 110,365 households and 79,683 families. The population density was 145 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 72.03 percent white, 4.24 percent African American, 0.64 percent Native American, 1.16 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 18.74 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.13 percent were descended from two or more races. 55.78 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 110,365 households, 36.3 percent had children or young people living with them. 51.8 percent were married couples living together, 15.3 percent were single mothers and 27.8 percent were non-families. 22.6 percent were single households and 7.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.30 people.
28.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 10.5 percent between 18 and 24, 28.9 percent between 25 and 44, 21.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.2 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 92.5 males.
The median income for a household in the 35,959 US dollars , and the median income for a family was 41,066 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,571 versus $ 22,324 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,036. 14.7 percent of families and 18.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
