The Hall County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Memphis .

The county is located north of the geographic center of Texas in the Texas Panhandle , about 40 km from Oklahoma and has an area of ​​2342 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Donley County , Collingsworth County , Childress County , Cottle County , Motley County, and Briscoe Counties .

history

Hall County was formed from parts of Bexar County and Young Counties on August 21, 1876 , and the administrative organization was completed on June 23, 1890. It was named after Warren DC Hall (1788–1867), who served as a young adult in the Mexican War of Independence . He later became Adjutant General and Secretary of War of the Republic of Texas .

Two of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of June 21, 2019, the Hall County Courthouse and the Hotel Turkey .

As of the 2000 census , Hall County had 3,782 people in 1,548 households and 1,013 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 71.97 percent white, 8.22 percent African American, 0.53 percent Native American, 0.16 percent Asian and 17.90 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.22 percent were descended from two or more races. 27.50 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,548 households, 28.2 percent had children or young people living with them. 53.7 percent were married couples living together, 9.0 percent were single mothers and 34.5 percent were non-families. 32.4 percent were single households and 19.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.06 people.

27.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.8 percent between 18 and 24, 22.1 percent between 25 and 44, 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 21.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 86.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $ 23,016 , and the median income for a family is $ 27,325. Males had a median income of $ 22,167 versus $ 19,050 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,210. 21.6 percent of families and 26.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
