The Goliad County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Goliad .

The county is located southeast of the geographic center of Texas, about 50 km off the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 2226 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: DeWitt County , Victoria County , Refugio County , Bee County, and Karnes County .
history
Goliad County was formed as the original county on March 17, 1836, and the administrative organization was completed the next year. It was named after the Mexican settlement Goliad . This is an anagram from the name of the Mexican revolutionary (H) idalgo , with the voiceless H omitted.

According to the 2000 census , Goliad County had 6,928 people in 2,644 households and 1,975 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 82.62 percent white, 4.82 percent African American, 0.55 percent Native American, 0.22 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 10.05 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.73 percent were descended from two or more races. 35.20 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,644 households, 33.1 percent had children or young people living with them. 62.1 percent were married couples living together, 8.7 percent were single mothers and 25.3 percent were non-families. 22.8 percent were single households and 11.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.02 people.
25.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.5 percent between 18 and 24, 25.0 percent between 25 and 44, 25.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 17.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 94.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 34,201 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,446. Males had a median income of $ 30,954 versus $ 20,028 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,126. 11.9 percent of families and 16.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
