The Robertson County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Franklin .

The county is located in east Texas and has an area of ​​2242 square kilometers, of which 29 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Limestone County , Leon County , Brazos County , Burleson County , Milam County, and Falls County .

history

Robertson County was formed in 1837 from parts of Bexar County , Milam County, and Nacogdoches County . It was named after Sterling Clack Robertson , an early settler, founder of a Texas colony and signatory of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

According to the 2000 census , Robertson County had 16,000 people in 6,179 households and 4,356 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 66.20 percent white, 24.19 percent African American, 0.42 percent Native American, 0.16 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 7.17 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.79 percent were descended from two or more races. 14.74 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 6,179 households, 32.0 percent had children or young people living with them. 51.1 percent were married couples living together, 15.5 percent were single mothers and 29.5 percent were non-families. 26.9 percent were single households and 14.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.09 people.

28.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.5 percent between 18 and 24, 24.2 percent between 25 and 44, 23.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 17.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 91 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 87.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $ 28,886 , and the median income for a family is $ 35,590. Males had a median income of $ 30,795 versus $ 21,529 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,714. 17.3 percent of families and 20.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
