Calvert is a city in Robertson County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located in the middle east of Texas, in the Texas Golden Triangle between Dallas , Houston and Austin , 150 km east of Austin, 100 km southeast of Waco and has a total area of ​​10.1 km 2 without any significant water surface.

history

Calvert was founded in 1868 and named after Robert Calvert , a plantation owner and initiator of the county's railroad construction. Until 1879, the city was also the seat of the county government ( County Seat ). The former district court building made of red brick, which is now in private hands, was built in 1876.

In 1873 many of the residents died of yellow fever, in 1899 the city was flooded and largely destroyed and two years later a large fire destroyed the business district, whereupon the population decreased from 3322 in 1900 to 2099 by 1920.
